VIKINGHOLM PLAYHOUSE

This is a shining example of skill, creativity, and volunteerism, built by Sundquist Associates for Rebuilding Together's June 2001 auction at Stanford, California. This masterpiece of design and construction fetched $25,000 at the auction! (Rebuilding Together was formerly Christmas in April.)

Playhouse Highlights
Designed and built thematically around a Nordic fort (to honor the Finnish origins of the Sundquist family and immigrant-founder George Sundquist), Vikingholm creates a magical if not mystical place for youngsters to fantasize and play.

A secret password opens a drawbridge into the playhouse. A ladder fashioned from tree branches whisks you to the second floor lookout and hidden periscope in the roof. An escape hatch and rope ladder let you elude your foes. Or for a bigger challenge, scale the climbing wall in the rear and enter through the second floor hatch. And, befitting a San Francisco Peninsula child's hideaway, the playhouse is fully equipped with lights, phone and data port.
