MEDITERRANEAN VILLA IN ATHERTON
Whole House Remodel
Before 2,600 square foot Ranch style house. The house was torn down except for a small wing left standing.
Client Needs The owners had a prime Atherton location. This was a large lot and with an undersized, inadequate California Rancher. The goal was to build an attractive and appropriately-sized family home with all of the modern luxuries while bringing the property to its full potential and value.
Approach The look and feel was to be southern European with New World elegance and sophistication. Since the client had remodeled the existing Master Suite two years prior, they asked the Architect to save that part of the house and incorporate their investment into the new house project.
After The result was a two story 4,800 sq. ft. home that incorporated 743 sq. ft. of the existing home for a total of 5,543 sq. ft. of living area.
Finishes
Interior: Kitchen Distressed pine cabinetry, polished "Ornamento Gold" granite slabs, and oak hardwood floors are accented by designer satin nickel plumbing fixtures to create a sophisticated, yet approachable and functional kitchen.
Foyer The grand Foyer is highlighted by a hand hewn hardwood door, limestone entry tile, flared out stairway with hand forged iron railings in the old world tradition, adorned by a magnificent pewter chandelier.
Other Interior walls, which have an old world feel, finish cleanly to cased windows and doors throughout. Hand carved plaster fireplace mantels and surrounds look monolithic and echo the old world traditions of fine craftsmanship and integrity. The precise balance of low voltage recessed lighting and hanging fixtures/wall sconces ensure all of the spaces are properly lit while staying true to the old world look and feel.
Exterior: A lightly textured stucco wall finish is accented by cast stone porches, columns, balcony copings, and balustrades. The accent of natural wood shutters and hand made decorative balcony railings creates just the right blend of materials to soften the overall façade and avoids making the house overly formal.
Added Value The finished home tripled the value of the property and gave the client much greater equity in their investment.
